The most fascinating part of the West is Snæfellsnes, named after Snæfellsjökull glacier that is like a crown at the end of it. There you will find the town of Stykkishólmur. Stykkishólmur is one of the most beautiful towns in Iceland with old houses that have been kept in their original look, along with a stunning harbour view.
In Stykkishólmur there are several tour companies that offer whale watching and tours to the nearby glacier. Sea Tours offers among other things a day tour to Flatey Island. Flatey is an amazing place to visit and sometimes referred to as “The island time forgot” due to the 19th century houses that have been preserved in their original style. For birdwatchers the island is pure heaven or for those who like to explore this remote destination.
There are also some very good restaurants along with hotels, camping area, swimming pool, grocery stores and everything else needed while there.
In the area there are also some very good lakes for trout fishing and can fishing permit be bought in local towns.
