Home to some of the most magnificent places of interest the south coast is always popular. Popular attractions include the glacial lagoon, Skógarfoss waterfall, Vatnajökull glacier national park and many more. If you are to explore the south coast we recommend that you plan at least a 2 day trip since there are so many interesting places to visit. Several excursions companies offer trips to the south coast but there is also the option of renting a car and going out on your own. Like most of Iceland outside the capital area, the south coast is not heavily populated. There are small towns and villages but they are few and sometimes far between. Wide open unpopulated areas with nothing but untouched nature everywhere you look is what you get on the south coast.
