North Iceland Information Information

Your comprehensive guide to Everything Reykjavik

Like anywhere else in Iceland, the north offers many interesting and beautiful places to visit. The town of Akureyri with around 17.000 inhabitants is often referred to as the capital of the north, but there is a lot more to this part of the country.

Among the jewels of the north are Goðafoss waterfall, Ásbyrgi canyon, beautiful lake Mývatn and Húsavík village, the whale watching capital of Iceland.

Only 40 km away from the mainland lays Grímsey Island that is bisected by the Arctic Circle. This isolated island is surrounded by cliffs that make perfect nesting site for over 60 different bird species. Visitors to Grímsey get a certificate that shows that they have crossed the Arctic Circle.

Air Iceland has fantastic packages to the north with included domestic flight to Akureyri.
